Please make plans to join us for a follow up meeting with all of those concerned about the opioid and substance abuse problems in our area. Our first meeting about this epidemic was on April 2, 2017, and we were pleasantly surprised that 39 citizens and a panel of seven community leaders shared their concerns, proposals and plans for addressing this issue.
The October 13, 2017 edition of the Smyth County News & Messenger reported that the Smyth County Recovery Court had finally received funding from the Department of Justice. On January 18, 2018, the Recovery Court held its first session.
At the Recovery Court information meeting on Thursday, February 8, participants will meet three members of the seven-person team that makes up the Recovery Court: the Honorable Judge Deanis Simmons, Recovery Court Coordinator Michelle Ward and Ruth Cox from Mt. Rogers Community Services Board. They will inform us on how the court works and will suggest ways we can be supportive of this new court.
